READY TO GO 2010
Republica have reactivated. The band, returning after a hiatus of 10 years, are releasing a brand new recording of their 1996 smash hit READY TO GO on June 7th.
Ready To Go was one of the most recognisable songs of the 90's and was No. 1 in many countries across the globe. This new version of Ready To Go, is updated for 2010, produced by Andy Gray (Tori Amos, U2, Gary Numan) and mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins etc). This is just the start of the Republica reactivation and will be followed by summer festivals and an Autumn tour.
In the mid 90's Melody Maker wrote that Republica had created a new musical genre they called 'Electronica'. With their unique blend of indie, punk, techno-pop and dance the band stormed the charts around the world with two albums, singles including Ready To Go, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and From Rush Hour With Love, and clocked up over 2 million sales. The band toured worldwide, playing every major festival and completing a 52 date tour of the US where 'Ready to Go' clocked up a no. 1 position in the Modern Rock chart. The band's songs have featured in many films, TV shows and adverts globally.
Lead singer Saffron became a style icon with her signature red streaked fringe, imitated by thousands and synonymous with BritPop cool, and was the face of brands as diverse as Diet Pepsi and Versace.
In the intervening years Republica band members have been busy with musical and non-musical ventures. Jonny Male has played in cult band Go Kart Mozart and is also a successful songwriter, writing many songs which have become international hits. Tim Dorney reformed his previous band Flowered Up, and Saffron has studied martial arts and Wingchun Kung Fu as well as writing scripts, acting, DJing and providing guest vocals for tracks with artists such as The Cure, JunkyXL, Carl Cox and The Prodigy.
Ready to Go 2010 will be released digitally on 7th June.
